BURNABY, BC – Whitecaps FC 2 fell by a scoreline of 4-1 against Saint Louis CITY 2 at Swangard Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The first half started quickly for the young ‘Caps, as wingback Ali Ahmed placed a ball into the box from the left channel of the field. With the play pin-balling its way through the area, midfielder Giovanni Aguilar tucked home the opening goal of the match in the 6th minute.

CITY2 would respond on their own moments later, as midfielder Vitor Dias’ through ball from the left flank of the field connected inside the area to midfielder Wan Kuzain, who’s quick footwork allowed him to tuck the ball into the open goal to level the match in the 14th minute.

Roughly 15 minutes later, CITY2 winger Célio Pompeu won the ball back in the midfield and made a long end-to-end run, unleashing a strike inside the area to give his squad the 2-1 advantage.

In the 40th minute of the match, defender Cristian Campagna’s attempt to block a cross from Saint Louis then deflected its way through into the net for an own goal, making it 3-1 for the vistitors.

The second half saw Saint Louis further cushioning their lead to a 4-1 scoreline, as João Klauss’ footwork inside the box led to the player placing a short pass for his fellow teammate Tomás Ostrák, who’s low finish found the back of the net in the 63rd minute.

Despite the Blue & White pushing for chances throughout the rest of the second half, the opponents fended off opportunities in a compact manner to claim the victory as the final whistle blew.

Up next for the young ‘Caps is another home match at Swangard Stadium against Colorado Rapids 2 next Thursday, August 25, with kickoff set to be at 7 p.m. PT. Tickets are complimentary for Whitecaps FC MLS season ticket members, or $10 at the gate.
