The Russell Teibert Scholarship is distributed annually to deserving youth from the Penelakut Tribe, who are strong leaders in academics and athletics and who are proud embodiments of Penelakut’s culture and community.
This scholarship is Russell’s expression of gratitude and recognition for a community that exemplifies resilience, unity, and heart.

Eligibility :
Applicants must be:
- Residents of Penelakut Island and/or members of the Penelakut Tribe
- 18 years of age or younger
- Attending elementary or high school
- Pursuing their athletic dreams
Criteria:
The selection committee will be looking for well-rounded students who demonstrate leadership in their community, play sports (preferably soccer), and proudly embody Penelakut’s culture and community.
Notes:
- Partially completed applications will not be accepted
- All applicants’ personal information will remain confidential; however, details of the scholarship recipients may be shared in marketing and promotional materials once approved by the individual
- Scholarship funds will be distributed to the Penelakut Tribe/School Board to be awarded to the recipients
- Scholarships must be used within 12 months of issue

About Russell Teibert
Russell spent his professional career with Whitecaps FC, coming through the club’s Academy and signing as an MLS Homegrown player in 2011. Over the course of his career for club and country, he made 328 appearances, with six goals, and 26 assists.
Penelakut Island holds a special place in Russell’s heart. From the moment he arrived, the warmth of the community made him feel like family. The land is beautiful, and the people make it truly sacred. Their kindness, strength, and generosity have left a lasting impression on him.
