10 questions with Matias Laba

10 questions - Laba

Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced today that the club has re-signed midfielder Matias Laba, who we conveniently get to know in the latest edition of our “10 questions” series.

1. If you weren’t a soccer player, what would you be?

In reality, I don’t know. Something related to soccer – journalist or something like that. Thank God I play football so I don’t have to worry about that.

2. What do you love most about playing with Whitecaps FC?

The ‘Caps have technical staff and an ambience in the changing rooms that you don’t find very often. It’s a place where you love to work.

3. What are some of your hobbies away from soccer?

Laba and Mezquida go head-to-head in FIFA 15

I love watching movies and playing XBox, above all FIFA of course. At the moment Nico, Cristian, Octavio and I are building our own teams and playing against each other online.

4. Do you have any superstitions? How do you prepare for a game?

When I step on the pitch, I make the sign of the cross but nothing more. I try to take care of myself during the days before a game by eating well and so on.

5. If you were stuck on a deserted island, which one of your teammates would you bring?

Cristian, because he makes me laugh a lot, and Nico, because I know that with both of them I wouldn’t get bored!

6. When are you happiest?

Playing soccer, for sure. Playing soccer and being with my family, that’s when I’m happiest.

7. Who was your favourite player growing up and why?

Riquelme. I used to watch and admire him.

8. What’s on your bucket list?

Hmm. I don’t know if I have something specific I need to do. I’m about to become a father (in March), so that’s something important to me.

9. What do you consider your greatest achievement so far?

One of my biggest achievements so far has been winning the championship with my team in Argentina. That team was amazing.

10. What are your goals for the future?

I’m always critical of myself in order to keep growing, both as a player and a person. I would like to play for my national team and play in Europe one day as well. If I play for Argentina, I would love to play at a World Cup. That is my dream.
