Columbus Crew SC to host Portland Timbers in 2015 MLS Cup Final

2015 MLS Cup

And then there were two.

Columbus Crew SC will host Portland Timbers in the 2015 MLS Cup Final on Sunday, December 6 at MAPFRE Stadium (1 p.m. PT on TSN 1/4/5).

Portland advanced to their first-ever MLS Cup Final by defeating FC Dallas 5-3 on aggregate in the Western Conference Championship. Prior to that, they defeated Vancouver Whitecaps FC in the Western Conference Semifinal and Sporting Kansas City in the Knockout Round.

Columbus, meanwhile, held on to defeat the Supporters’ Shield-winning New York Red Bulls 2-1 in the Eastern Conference Championship after beating Montreal Impact in the conference semifinal.

This will be the Crew’s second appearance in an MLS Cup Final – they won it all in 2008.

Portland and Columbus both finished the regular season with 53 points (as did Whitecaps FC) and 15 wins. But Columbus had better goal differential, which makes them the higher seed.

NOTE: The MLS trade window will reopen the day after the MLS Cup Final. That is also when the list of players eligible for Free Agency and the MLS Re-Entry Process will be made public.
