VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC midfielder Andrés Cubas has been called up to Paraguay's men's national team for the March international window.
The window marks the penultimate meeting for international sides ahead of the 2026 FIFA Men's World Cup™ this summer, with Paraguay placed in Group D alongside the United States, Australia, and the UEFA Playoff C winner between Türkiye, Romania, Kosovo, and Slovakia. The following window will see teams play warm-up matches leading into the tournament, which starts on June 11 with the opening match between Mexico and South Africa in Group A.
After qualifying for their first FIFA Men's World Cup in 15 years last month, Paraguay are set to continue ramping up for the tournament with another pair of friendlies. First up, 'La Albirroja' will face Greece on Friday, March 27 at Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium in Piraeus, Greece, with kickoff at 12:30 p.m. PT. Paraguay will then face Morocco on Tuesday, March 31 at Stade Bollaert-Delelis in Lens, France, with kickoff set for 12 p.m. PT.
Born in Argentina, Cubas has represented Paraguay at the international level 32 times since 2020, making 30 starts in World Cup Qualifying, Copa América and friendly competition. Cubas previously played for Argentina at the U-20 level, where he started two of his three appearances for the side at the 2015 U-20 World Cup in New Zealand.
This season, Cubas has started five of his six appearances across all competitions, recording one assist.
All-time, Cubas has made 130 starts and 140 appearances since joining Whitecaps FC in April 2022, adding a goal as well as 11 assists.
