VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC midfielder Andrés Cubas has been called up to Paraguay's men's national team for their September international window.

The Designated Player will be looking to help his country punch their ticket to the 2026 FIFA Men’s World Cup, which would mark Paraguay's first World Cup appearance in 15 years. The Albirroja will aim to accomplish the feat in their opening match of the window, as they host Ecuador on Thursday, September 4 at Estadio Defensores del Chaco in AsunciĂ³n, Paraguay, with kickoff set for 4:30 p.m. PT.

Cubas and Paraguay will then wrap up the international window on Tuesday, September 9 with a visit to Peru and fellow Whitecaps FC teammate Kenji Cabrera. Kickoff from Estadio Nacional in Lima, Peru is set for 4:30 p.m. PT. With this being the last round of CONMEBOL FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, Paraguay sit fifth in the standings with a 6W-4L-6D record (24 points), and a single point in their final two matches will see them secure their spot at next summers finals.

Born in Argentina, Cubas has represented Paraguay at the international level 30 times since 2020, making 28 starts in World Cup Qualifying, Copa América and friendly competition. Cubas previously played for Argentina at the U-20 level, where he started two of his three appearances for the side at the 2015 U-20 World Cup in New Zealand.

So far this season, Cubas has started 26 of his 29 appearances across all competitions in 2025, recording one assist.

All-time, Cubas has made 114 starts and 122 appearances since joining Whitecaps FC in April 2022, adding a goal as well as 10 assists.
