Bruno Caicedo to represent Ecuador in pre-World Cup friendly

VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC have confirmed that winger Bruno Caicedo has been called up to represent the Ecuador senior men’s national team for a friendly match against Saudi Arabia on May 30 ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026™ starting in June.

This will be Caicedo’s first call-up to the Ecuadorian senior men’s national team, after previously playing for the nation’s U-20 squad at the 2025 U-20 South American Championship, starting in all four matches.

Ecuador (ranked #23 by FIFA) will play against Group H’s Saudi Arabia (#61) in a pre-tournament friendly on Saturday, May 30 at Sports Illustrated Stadium in New Jersey.

Caicedo joined the ‘Caps ahead of the 2026 season on a U22 Initiative contract from Ecuadorian LigaPro Series A side Barcelona SC. He spent most of the past two years on two loan spells, making 31 starts in 53 appearances while contributing four goals and three assists across all competitions.

In his Whitecaps FC debut season, Caicedo has made two starts in eight appearances, registering two goals and two assists. The Ecuadorian notched his first assist against New York City FC on April 11, scored his first goal against Sporting Kansas City on April 17, and added another assist versus Colorado Rapids on April 25, giving him goal contributions in three straight matches during his first four appearances for the ‘Caps. This past weekend, Caicedo scored his second goal and first game-winner in Vancouver's 4-2 victory at San Diego FC.

Caicedo becomes the fourth Vancouver Whitecaps FC first team player to be called up during the June international window, following Ralph Priso, who will join Canada’s pre-tournament camp, Liam Mackenize, who is representing Canada’s U-20 national team at the Maurice Revello Tournament, and Rayan Elloumi who will play for Tunisia in the 2026 FIFA Men’s World Cup.
