Caleb Clarke with Canada at Olympic qualifying

In the first of three group matches, Canada fell 3-1 to hosts USA on Thursday at the 2015 CONCACAF Men's Olympic Qualifying Tournament. Canada controlled good parts of the game, but conceded early and late in the defeat at Sporting Park in Kansas City, KS.

The U.S. struck in the first, 73rd, and 92nd minutes, with Jordan Morris scoring the first two and Luis Gill scoring the last on an added-time penalty. Canada scored their goal in the 81st minute with Michael Petrasso heading home a Chris Mannella corner kick.

Whitecaps FC striker Caleb Clarke started the match and played 81 minutes.

Canada needs to finish among the top two teams in the group against USA, Panama, and Cuba in order to advance to the next stage of the tournament. USA leads the group with three points after the opening day, while Cuba and Panama are even with a single point each after a 1-1 draw.

Canada will now have a day to recover before facing Panama on Saturday (11:30 a.m. PT).
