Despite going down to 10 men, Canada's Men's National Team nearly punched their ticket to the 2022 FIFA World Cup as they dropped a 1-0 result to Costa Rica in Concacaf FIFA World Cup Qualifying at the Estadio Nacional in San José, Costa Rica.

In the 34th minute, midfielder Mark-Anthony Kaye got into a tussle with Costa Rican winger Johan Venegas and was given a second yellow card, bringing Canada down to 10 men.

Costa Rica would open the scoring in stoppage time at the end of the first half as midfielder Celso Borges headed the ball into the bottom corner to give the home side the lead.

Fast forward to the 73rd minute, Canada would have three consecutive chances to level the match, but neither Richie Laryea or Tajon Buchanan could convert.

Canada would once again come close to finding the equalizer in the 88th minute, as Jonathan David headed a cross from Laryea right off the post.

Next up for Canada is a clash against Jamaica in their final home match of the World Cup Qualifying campaign this Sunday, March 27 at BMO Field in Toronto, Ontario, with kick-off set for 1:05 p.m. PT. You can catch the match live on OneSoccer and Sportsnet.
