VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC confirmed on Monday, January 24 striker Lucas Cavallini and defenders Derek Cornelius and Cristián Gutiérrez have been called up to Canada’s Men’s National Team for upcoming FIFA World Cup Qualifying matches against Honduras, the United States and El Salvador.

Cavallini and Gutiérrez departed from Whitecaps FC preseason training camp in Vancouver on Sunday and will rejoin the squad for the trip to San Diego, California.

“We look forward to coming home and playing in front of our fans, they have made the difference every time,” said John Herdman, Canada Soccer’s Men’s National Team Head Coach. “This will be a tough window, but we are strong and will embrace the challenges as we continue to take it one match at a time.”

The first match against Honduras will take place on Thursday, January 27 at Olímpico Metropolitano in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, with kickoff set for 5:05 p.m. PT.

The second clash against the United States will be hosted by Canada at Tim Hortons Field in Hamilton, Ontario on Sunday, January 30. Kickoff is set for 12:05 p.m. PT.

Lastly, the final match against El Salvador will be played at Estadio Cuscatlán in San Salvador, El Salvador on Wednesday, February 2, with kickoff at 6 p.m. PT.

All three matches will be broadcast live on Sportsnet and OneSoccer.

Cavallini has scored 16 goals in 28 appearances for the national team, with five of those goals coming in World Cup Qualifying.

Currently on loan at Greek side Panetolikos FC, Cornelius has made 14 appearances with the national team, most recently on October 11, 2021 when he helped Canada keep a clean sheet against Jamaica in a 0-0 draw.

Gutiérrez, who was last called up to the national team for a training camp in January 2021, will be looking to make his Canada debut in the upcoming round of fixtures.
