Colin Miller's Keys to Wednesday's match vs. RSL

Colin Miller's Keys to the Match

Tune in on matchdays for a one hour pre-match show and one hour post-match show as Colin Miller and Corey Basso call the action live on AM730. Wednesday’s pre-match show kicks off at 6:00 p.m. PT at whitecapsfc.com/am730.

Here are Colin’s keys for Wednesday’s match against Real Salt Lake.

Reaction from Crépeau and Cavallini missing

Maxime Crépeau and Lucas Cavallini are two key players for the ‘Caps, and that’s why they have the honour of representing Canada at the upcoming Concacaf Gold Cup.

Both players finished up strong before international duty. Crépeau was excellent against Dallas with a number of big saves, and Cavallini scored for a second straight match.

Now that they are away for the next several weeks, who from the group will step up? Who will take on the leadership roles and stamp their authority on matches?

Clean sheet

This is easy to say and write about, but it will be an important factor.

Can they protect the new keeper? With Crépeau away either Thomas Hasal or Evan Newton will be in net for the first time this season.

RSL have a very busy and dangerous front four. They need to keep them contained.

Stay aggressive, make up points

It has been a tough run for the ‘Caps traveling away to five of their past seven matches.

Now they get to stay in Utah for their next three “home matches”.

They need to continue the positive run, and that means being aggressive going forward.

If they can do that and get a series of good results, they could find themselves moving up the standings.
