Eight players return to Whitecaps FC 2 roster for 2016 USL season

VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced on Tuesday that eight more players will return to the Whitecaps FC 2 (WFC2) roster for the 2016 United Soccer League (USL) season.


Rejoining the team for 2016 are goalkeeper Spencer Richey, defenders Jackson FarmerSahil Sandhu, and Deklan Wynne, and midfielders Victor Blasco, Brett LevisMitch Piraux, and Will Seymore.



“We’re very pleased to bring back our core group of young players for a second season together,” said Whitecaps FC 2 head coach Alan Koch. “With a year of experience under their belts, our squad will know what to expect going into next year.”

The returning group of players combined to make 126 appearances for WFC2 in 2015, playing 8,521 minutes. Richey led all WFC2 goalkeepers in starts, wins, and shutouts, while Farmer was second on the team in minutes played, and Sandhu fifth. Blasco’s six assists were most on the team, and he and Levis tied for third on the team with four goals each. Piraux started five of his seven appearances before missing the remainder of the season due to injury, while Seymore started nine of his 10 appearances after joining the team in July.



Farmer and Wynne both represented their respective countries at the international level in 2015. Farmer represented Canada’s senior national team, and played for the U-23 national team at both the Pan American Games and in CONCACAF Olympic qualifying. Wynne played for New Zealand at the senior national team level, FIFA U-20 World Cup, and for the U-23 national team.



WFC2 now have 13 players on the 2016 roster. Nine Canadians are coming back for next season, including the five youth national team players announced last week. Eight of the nine returning Canadians developed through the Whitecaps FC Residency program.
