Kendall Waston called up to Costa Rica for upcoming October friendlies

Waston call-up - Costa Rica

VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC confirmed on Thursday that captain Kendall Waston has been called up to the Costa Rican men’s national team for two friendlies this month.

The Ticos visit Mexico at Estadio Universitario de Nuevo León, in San Nicolás de los Garza on October 11, and then play Colombia in a neutral site fixture at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, NJ on October 16.

The 'Caps host Sporting Kansas City on the day after the second match, October 17 at BC Place.

Waston was called up for Costa Rica's Asian friendlies tour in September but missed the trip due to injury.

The Whitecaps FC defender is seeking his first international appearance since heading in a goal in the 2-2 draw against Switzerland at the 2018 FIFA World Cup. The goal, his fourth in international competition, made the 30-year-old centre back the first active ‘Caps player to score in the World Cup.

Waston has 28 caps for Costa Rica since making his senior international debut in 2013.

Whitecaps FC are back in action this Saturday against Toronto FC (2 p.m. PT kickoff at BMO Field, TV: TSN 1/4, RADIO: TSN 1040 and 1410 AM).
