League1 BC: Champs win third in a row to start the season

VANCOUVER, BC  – Vancouver Whitecaps FC Girls Elite won their third straight match to open the 2023 League1 BC campaign with a 5-1 victory against Altitude FC at Ken Woods Field this Friday evening.

Altitude FC opened the scoring in the 17th minute. Forward Billie Shostak found herself on a breakaway, finishing with a strike into the back of the net in the 17th minute of the match.

The 'Caps were keen to level the scores, but Altitude goalkeeper Sarah Loewen came up with a brilliant reactionary save in the 22nd minute.

As the match progressed, Mya Archibald would level the game with a low strike into the corner in the 40th minute of the match.

The Blue & White were awarded a penalty kick right before the halftime interval. Kierra Blundell would give her squad a 2-1 advantage as she calmly converted from the spot.

The second half would see substitute forward Noelle Sather’s shot stopped by Loewen in the 50th minute of the match.

Later on, Archibald would grab a brace in the 77th minute of the match, her third in two games, with another outstanding finish from distance which curled its way into the top corner.

As the match neared its end, the young ‘Caps went on a counterattack, Jaime Perrault would then complete the action by scoring her first goal of the season in the 81st minute.

With time winding down, substitute Ava Jackson would find one more on a pass from Anna Hauer, finishing into the top of the net before the final whistle blew at Ken Woods Field.
