LANGLEY, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC Girls Elite Academy clinched the League1 BC regular season title with an exhilarating 5-4 win at fellow playoff side Unity FC on Saturday.
The result also clinches a spot in the League1 Canada Inter-Provincial Championship set to be hosted in British Columbia this summer.
The 'Caps opened the scoring in the 16th minute through Jeneva Hernandez-Gray, but Unity responded to take a 3-1 lead by the 36th minute.
Jaime Perrault then cut it to 3-2 in the 39th minute, before Kaylee Hunter equalized in the second minute of first half stoppage time to send them into the break equal at 3-3.
Hernandez-Gray then scored her second of the match to go up 4-3 in the 54th minute, but Unity equalized once again three minutes later.
Finally, in the fourth minute of stoppage time, Emma Yee volleyed home a terrific strike to give the 'Caps a wild 5-4 victory.
Details on the Inter-Provincial Championship will be announced in the coming weeks. CF Montreal has also clinched their spot through Ligue1 Québec.
The 'Caps will end the regular season next Sunday, July 23 at Rivers FC in Kamloops. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. PT.
The League1 BC semifinals are then set to begin between July 28-29, with the 'Caps hosting the fourth place team.
