Head coach Carl Robinson makes three changes to his starting XI from last Sunday’s 2-0 defeat at FC Dallas: David Edgar, Cristian Techera, and Giles Barnes get the start in place of Cole Seiler, Blas Pérez, and Masato Kudo.
David Edgar makes his MLS debut as he partners with Kendall Waston at centre back, moving Tim Parker to right back. Edgar, a Canadian international, started and played the full 90 minutes in Tuesday’s 1-0 win over Central FC in the CONCACAF Champions League opener in Trinidad & Tobago.
Newcomer Giles Barnes makes his Whitecaps FC debut at striker. The Jamaican international was
acquired in a trade with Houston Dynamo
on July 30.
Cristian Techera returns to the starting lineup after scoring in Tuesday’s 1-0 win over Central FC in the CONCACAF Champions League opener in Trinidad & Tobago.
Three players are starting who were acquired during the summer transfer window: David Edgar, Marcel de Jong, and Giles Barnes. Including Andrew Jacobson and Christian Bolaños, five first year ‘Caps are in the starting XI.
Andrew Jacobson and Matías Laba have now partnered in the middle nine times this season, including the last six MLS matches.
