Disciplinary Report
Christian Bolaños is suspended for today’s match by the MLS Disciplinary committee for “violent conduct that endangered the safety of an opponent” in the 53rd minute of last Saturday’s match against Sporting Kansas City.
Kendall Waston is on caution accumulation warning and suspended with next yellow card, four games remaining to good behaviour incentive.
LA Galaxy’s Jelle Van Damme is on caution accumulation warning and suspended with next yellow card, five games remaining to good behaviour incentive.
NOTES:
Today is the first time that four Canadians have started for Whitecaps FC in MLS regular season play - Fraser Aird, Marcel de Jong, David Edgar, and Russell Teibert. Earlier this season, back on April 9 at D.C. United, was the first time three Canadian internationals started for the ‘Caps.
Whitecaps FC head coach Carl Robinson makes four changes to his starting XI from last Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at Sporting KC – Jordan Smith, Matías Laba, Russell Teibert, and Erik Hurtado come in for Andrew Jacobson, Christian Bolaños, Nicolás Mezquida, and Blas Pérez.
Six players also started Tuesday’s 3-0 CONCACAF Champions League win over Sporting KC at BC Place – Jordan Smith, Kendall Waston, Fraser Aird, Matías Laba, Russell Teibert, and Erik Hurtado.
International duty
Six players – five in today’s 18 – head off on international duty following tonight’s match and will miss next Saturday’s home match against New York Red Bulls. World Cup qualifying matches will take place this coming Friday, September 2 and Tuesday, September 6.
