NOTES:
Whitecaps FC head coach Carl Robinson makes one change from last Saturday’s 1-0 MLS regular season win over FC Dallas, as Canadian international Russell Teibert replaces Matias Laba.
Teibert and his midfield partner Gershon Koffie are both making their 13th career appearances in the Amway Canadian Championship – only former Whitecaps FC goalkeeper Jay Nolly has played more matches for the club. Both Teibert and Koffie have been with the club since the pre-MLS era.
Today’s starters have an average age of 25 years and 11 months. Five of the six attacking players are 23 years old or younger, while Morales is 30. Morales leads Whitecaps FC with two goals in this year’s Canadian Championship. Including last year, the ‘Caps captain has three goals and one assist in three ACC appearances.
In total, eight different birth countries are represented in today’s starters: Canada, Chile, Costa Rica, Denmark, The Gambia, Ghana, United States (x3), and Uruguay (x2).
Recently signed right back Jordan Smith, a 24-year-old native of Costa Rica, makes the 18-man gameday roster for the first time.
INJURY REPORT:
Nicolás Mezquida suffered a left hamstring strain last Saturday against FC Dallas, while Ben McKendry continues his recovery after undergoing a successful surgery for a meniscal tear of his left knee on August 5.
