Notes
Whitecaps FC head coach Carl Robinson makes 10 changes to his starting XI from Saturday’s 3-1 win at Columbus Crew SC. Centre back Kendall Waston is the only player who will have started both matches. Erik Hurtado, Andrew Jacobson, and Nicolás Mezquida, meanwhile, were second half subs in Columbus with Hurtado and Jacobson both finding the back of the net.
Four starters – Fraser Aird, Erik Hurtado, Tim Parker, and Kendall Waston – also started Vancouver’s 3-0 CCL win over Sporting KC on August 23 at BC Place.
Three Canadians get the start today in Aird, left back Marcel de Jong, and 15-year-old winger Alphonso Davies, who makes his third first-team start in official competitions and first in the CCL.
Starting in goal for the ‘Caps today is WFC2 goalkeeper Spencer Richey. This will be his second start with the first team after making five saves and keeping a clean sheet in Vancouver’s CCL-opening win against Central FC last month.
Richey’s WFC2 teammate Kyle Greig, whose hometown is Olathe, Kansas, is on the bench.
