NOTES
Whitecaps FC head coach Carl Robinson makes three changes to his starting XI from last Friday’s 2-1 defeat to San Jose Earthquakes, as right back Fraser Aird, midfielder Andrew Jacobson, and striker Blas Pérez replace Tim Parker, Matias Laba, and Masato Kudo.
Aird makes his first MLS regular season start since May 14 at Toronto FC – he did play 16 minutes last weekend against San Jose. Aird played 90 minutes on the right side of midfield in Vancouver’s 1-0 CONCACAF Champions League win over Central FC on August 2 and 90 minutes at right back during the first legs of the Amway Canadian Championship semifinal in June.
Tonight is the first time since August 6, 2009 that Whitecaps FC starting back four includes three Canadians in Aird, David Edgar, and Marcel de Jong. Back in August 2009, the Canadian defenders were Chris Pozniak, Marco Reda, and Mason Trafford.
