Mihail Gherasimencov called up to Moldova's men's national team for September-October international window

VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC confirmed on Saturday that Vancouver Whitecaps FC defender Mihail Gherasimencov will join the Moldova men’s national team for UEFA Nations League matches in the September-October international window.  

Under this format of UEFA Nations League play, countries are divided into four separate leagues (A, B, C, D) according to their FIFA ranking and past performances. In each league, teams are randomly assigned to groups of three to four countries, where they play each other in a series of home and away fixtures. Moldova competes in UEFA Nations League C, fighting for the top spot in its group to secure a direct promotion to League B.

Moldova will play four matches in the competition, starting with a clash against Slovakia on Saturday, September 26. Kickoff at Futbal Tatran Aréna in Prešov, Slovaki is set for 11:45 a.m. PT. They will then face Faroe Islands on Tuesday, September 29 at Stadionul Zimbru in Chişinǎu, Moldova at 11:45 a.m. PT, followed by a trip to face Kazakhstan on Friday, October 2, with kickoff set for 7 a.m. PT at the Astana Arena in Astana, Kazakhstan. Moldova will close the window with another home match at Stadionul Zimbru against Slovakia on Tuesday, October 6, with kickoff scheduled for 11:45 a.m. PT.

This marks Gherasimencov’s fifth call up to Moldova’s senior team, most recently joining the squad for two international friendlies in the June window, where he started in both matches. The 21-year-old defender has seven caps under his belt for his nation of birth. He has also represented Moldova at the U-21 and U-19 levels.

This year marks Gherasimencov’s debut season with the ‘Caps first team, signing his MLS contract in December 2025 after a loan spell from Whitecaps FC 2 (WFC2) with Canadian Premier League side Cavalry FC. Gherasimencov made his MLS debut for the 'Caps in the away win over Portland Timbers on March 7. In total, he has started four of his 12 appearances across all competitions this season, talling one goal and one assist.
