Thomas Müller, Brian White, and Jesper Sørensen named to MLS Team of Matchday 15

VANCOUVER, BC – Major League Soccer announced on Monday that attacking midfielder Thomas Müller, striker Brian White, and head coach Jesper Sørensen have been named to the MLS Team of Matchday 15. The trio of nods come after the team battled for a 4-2 victory over San Diego FC in the ‘Caps final MLS match before the FIFA World Cup 2026™ break.

This marks the fifth time White has been selected this season, previously making the MLS Team of the Matchday roster in Matchday 3, Matchday 4, Matchday 7, and Matchday 10. The American international had a stellar performance on Saturday, contributing to every single one of the ‘Caps goals (2G, 2A).

White’s brace marks his fourth two-goal game this season across all competitions, most recently finding the back of the net twice against Colorado Rapids on April 25. In his Whitecaps FC career, White has registered 10 two-goal games, as well as three matches where he’s score three-plus goals, for a total of 13 multi-goal games. Last Saturday was White’s second match with four goal contributions, following a four-goal thriller against Austin FC on April 12 last season.

The 30-year-old striker is the only Whitecaps FC player to start all 14 of the team’s MLS matches this season. His 10 goals rank him tied-seventh in the MLS’s golden boot race, only three markers away from the lead.

Müller found his apple farm on Saturday, registering three assists in the match marking the first time in his MLS career to have a multi-assist game. The experienced attacking midfielder led the team in key passes with four and completed 40 total passes on Saturday.

Müller’s eight goal contributions this season in MLS play ranks him third amongst the ‘Caps, This marks the second MLS Team of the Matchday recognition for Müller this year, previously being named in Matchday 2.

Sørensen also earns his second selection to the MLS Team of the Matchday this season, having also been named in Matchday 3. Saturday’s win was the 29th in Sørensen’s MLS career. The ‘Caps continued to maintain the team’s best start to any MLS season (10W-2L-2D, 32 points), which keeps them in first place in the Western Conference, and one point behind the lead in the Supporters' Shield race.

The 'Caps have maintained a heavy presence on the MLS Team of the Matchday through the season, with midfielder Sebastian Berhalter (Matchday 1, Matchday 3, Matchday 4, Matchday 6, Matchday 12, Matchday 13), defender Mathías Laborda (Matchday 4, Matchday 11), forward Emmanuel Sabbi (Matchday 8), and defender Tristan Blackmon (Matchday 3) also earning selections this year.
