NELSON, BC – From November 18 to 19, the Whitecaps FC Nelson BMO Academy hosted a Charity Soccer Tournament to celebrate the 10-year partnership between Whitecaps FC and Nelson Soccer Association.

The two-day tournament brought together players from the Kootenays area, giving them an opportunity to showcase impressive skills, through a dynamic and festive atmosphere for both participants and spectators.

Thanks to the participation of the players and the generous support from the community, the tournament raised $2,500, which will be fully donated to KidSport. The funds raised will contribute to providing more children with the opportunity to experience the joy of sports and the valuable life lessons they impart.

"This initiative is a testament to the incredible community spirit that defines our soccer family," said Reynold Stewart, Whitecaps FC West Kootenays head coach. "Seeing all these players, and supporters come together not only to compete but also to support a great cause is truly inspiring. Our partnership with Nelson Soccer Association has flourished over the years, and this event reflects the shared commitment to nurturing both the love for the game and the well-being of our community's youth. A heartfelt thank you to everyone involved for making this tournament a success and for helping us continue to make a positive impact here."

“The Charity Soccer Tournament marked a significant milestone in our partnership with Nelson Soccer Association," added Brett Adams, Whitecaps FC BMO academy centres associate head coach. "It highlighted the unity and support that define our local soccer community. I would like to thank Nelson Soccer Association for generously donating their time and resources to make this event a tremendous success. Their commitment to the sport has been a key factor in the positive trajectory of soccer development in our area. We look forward to many more years of collaboration and continued success as we work together to nurture the passion for soccer in Nelson.”

KidSport BC has been the official charity partner of the Vancouver Whitecaps FC 50/50 program throughout the 2023 season. The partnership has provided KidSport BC with the opportunity to raise much-needed funds for its granting program, which helps remove financial barriers to sport by providing funding for under-resourced children and youth to help cover the cost of sport registration fees.
