WEEKLY STORYLINES

STARTING ON THE RIGHT FOOT: Vancouver Whitecaps FC kicked off their 2026 MLS regular season campaign last weekend with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Western Conference foes Real Salt Lake in front of over 23,000 fans at BC Place. The win, which marked the club's 500th MLS regular season match, saw the 'Caps secure back-to-back home opener victories for only the second time in their MLS era. New signing AZ scored the winner, becoming the fourth Vancouver player to score on their MLS debut for the club over the last 12 months, joining Jayden Nelson, Tate Johnson, and Antoine Coupland. The 'Caps will now look to build on their opening day win as they start the season with seven of the first eight MLS matches at BC Place.

ONTO THE NEXT: On Wednesday night, the 'Caps booked their place in the Concacaf Champions Cup Round of 16 after claiming a comfortable 2-0 victory against Costa Rican side CS Cartaginés at BC Place. Kenji Cabrera and Sebastian Berhalter scored their first goals of the season, while Yohei Takaoka kept a third consecutive clean sheet to begin the year, marking the second time in the MLS era that the club starts a season with three straight shutouts. In the MLS era, the club-record shutout streak to open a season is 427 minutes, set at the start of the 2012 campaign. The Blue and White will now face Cascadia rivals Seattle Sounders FC in the next round, with the first leg set for March 12 at BC Place and the second leg scheduled to take place on March 18 in Spokane, Washington.

MAPLE LEAF MATCHUP: On Saturday, the 'Caps will look to make it two wins from two to begin the regular season, as they're set to host rivals Toronto FC in an all-Canadian clash at BC Place. Dating back to September 2020, the Blue and White are unbeaten in their last eight meetings across all competitions against the Reds, shutting out TFC four times and earning a 4-0 victory in their last regular season meeting at home in 2024. Another added fact, Vancouver are two MLS regular season wins away from matching Toronto’s 183 league victories. The 'Caps are also expecting a crowd of over 22,500 for Saturday's match.
