Preview: 'Caps host familiar opponents LAFC in CCL quarterfinals first leg at BC Place

VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC continue their three-match homestand with one of their biggest matches of the season, as they host the first leg of the Concacaf Champions League quarterfinals on Wednesday, April 5 against fellow MLS opposition Los Angeles FC at BC Place. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. PT live on OneSoccer, Channel 980 on TELUS, and AM730 radio, with the radio pre-game show starting at 6 p.m. PT.

Similar to the Round of 16, the 'Caps will host the first leg of the quarterfinals on Wednesday and will travel to California in just under a week's time to play the second leg at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles, with kickoff set for 7:15 p.m. PT. If the 'Caps progress in the tie, they'll face the winner between 2022 MLS Cup runners-up Philadelphia Union and LIGA MX side Atlas FC in the semifinals of the tournament.

BACK TO CCL: After a dominant 5-0 victory over their Canadian rivals CF Montréal this past weekend, Vancouver Whitecaps FC continue their three-match homestand on Wednesday, April 5 with the first leg of the Concacaf Champions League quarterfinals against fellow MLS side Los Angeles FC. The 'Caps recorded a 7-3 aggregate victory over Honduran outfit Real C.D. España in the Round of 16, which included another 5-0 win in the first leg of the tie at BC Place. Meanwhile, LAFC beat Costa Rican side L.D. Alajuelense by an aggregate scoreline of 4-2 in the Round of 16.

CASCADIA RIVALRY: Following Wednesday's Concacaf Champions League match, the 'Caps will shift their focus towards MLS action, as they look to extend their four-match unbeaten run against Cascadia rivals Portland Timbers on Saturday, April 8 at BC Place. The match will mark the first Cascadia clash of the season for the 'Caps, as they'll be looking to claim their seventh Cascadia Cup in their history.

YOUNG BALLERS BALLING: Whitecaps FC midfielder Ali Ahmed and forward Simon Becher were named to the MLS Team of the Matchday on Monday for their performances in Matchday 6 against CF Montréal. The pair became the first players from the club's MLS NEXT Pro side Whitecaps FC 2 to sign with the first team this past offseason. On Saturday, Ahmed recorded his first MLS goal and first MLS assist. The native of Toronto, Ontario also added a team-high 10 successful duels and a team-high eight tackles won. Meanwhile, Becher tallied two goals and an assist, becoming the fastest player in league history to score his first four MLS goals, doing so in just 87 minutes of action. The native of Brooklyn, Connecticut now has five goals and an assist in four appearances across all competitions for the first team.
