VANCOUVER, BC - Peter Walton, general manager of Professional Referee Organization, joined Peter Schaad on Monday Night Futbol on TSN Radio last night to discuss officiating in MLS, a major talking point early in the season.
"My mandate is to put the Disciplinary Committee out of work," Walton said. "The tackling, the physical play - that's all part of the game and that will not be removed from the game. What we're looking at are the lunging challenges that could endanger the safety of the opponent he's tackling."
Whitecaps FC midfielder Russell Teibert also joined the show to talk about his first appearance of the year, and how the 'Caps have put last week's loss behind them and started looking forward to Saturday's match against Real Salt Lake.
"We've been through this before and we'll get through it," Teibert said. "It doesn't matter where you start. As everybody knows, in this league, it's about how you finish off."
