YOKOHAMA, JAPAN– Real Madrid captured their second FIFA Club World Cup with a 4-2 extra time victory over Kashima Antlers at the International Stadium in Yokohama on Sunday. FIFA Ballon d'Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo led the way with a hat-trick for the Spanish giants.

Karim Benzema opened the scoring for Madrid in the ninth minute, as the European champions went ahead 1-0. But Kashima, representing the host country, fought back valiantly and took a 2-1 lead in the 52nd minute after two goals from Japanese international Gaku Shibasaki.

Ronaldo would equalize on a penalty kick in the 60th minute, which eventually sent the match to extra time.

Kashima pushed to pull off a gargantuan upset, but Ronaldo struck twice more in extra time to give Madrid the crown as the world's best club for 2016.
