Rookie Jake Nerwinski earns first MLS Team of the Week selection

Nerwinski vs. Pirlo

They say in professional sports you must make the most of the opportunities given, and Whitecaps FC rookie Jake Nerwinski certainly did that on Wednesday night at BC Place, setting up the game-winning goal in a thrilling 3-2 win over star-studded New York City FC.

In the 88th minute, with the match tied, Nerwinski received a ball from Techera at the near side corner, took a touch, and in textbook fashion delivered a ball to the far post that found the head of Yordy Reyna, who directed it into the top corner to seal the victory.

It capped off a strong performance from the 22-year-old right back, who also made a tackle to gain possession for the ‘Caps in the build-up to the goal. And on Friday he was recognized with his first MLS Team of the Week selection.
