Sam Heap named Whitecaps FC BMO Medicine Hat Academy head coach

VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC have named Sam Heap head coach of the club’s Whitecaps FC BMO Medicine Hat Academy Centre.

As part of his role, Heap will oversee programs in Medicine Hat, including working as technical director with Whitecaps FC Network Partner Program club Medicine Hat Soccer Association. In addition to his responsibilities with MHSA, Heap has also accepted a role as head coach of the soccer program at Medicine Hat College.

“We are pleased to welcome Sam back to the club to lead our Medicine Hat Academy Centre programs,” said Mike Ayyash, Whitecaps FC BMO Academy Centre director. “Medicine Hat is an important region for the club. We’re looking forward to Sam integrating himself into the community.”

Heap previously coached with Whitecaps FC for seven years, taking on roles in Cranbrook, British Columbia and Lethbridge, Alberta. He later returned to his native England to work with Blackburn Rovers FC as regional talent manager before rejoining the club for this new opportunity in Medicine Hat.

The native of Worsthorne, England has his FA Level 2 certification and his Canada Soccer B licence.

Heap begins his role in early August.
