Canada’s men’s national ream concluded its series of two international friendlies against Iceland on Monday with a 1-1 draw at the University of Central Florida Soccer Complex.

Both the game’s goals were scored from the penalty spot. Dwayne De Rosario gave Canada a 1-0 lead in the 30th minute after Karl W. Ouimette was hauled down in the box before Iceland brought the game level from the spot in the 65th minute.

Limiting errors in their zone, the Canadians established the pace most of the match, attacking regularly and maintaining possession for long stretches of time.

“On Friday, we played well but the score was unfair,” said Canada head coach Benito Floro. “Today we played with a good intensity, speaking about the pressing, everywhere on the pitch, but the opponent played as well as we did. We are happy with our players because we consider that in both matches we offered more combined attack even if Iceland is a good tactical and physical team.”

Vancouver Whitecaps FC midfielder Russell Teibert, making his 10th career appearance for the senior national team, looked lively in the game’s closing stages after getting subbed on in the 68th minute.

Former Whitecaps FC Residency players Adam Straith and Daniel Stanese also appeared in the match. For Stanese, it was his first-ever cap for the senior national team.
