Vancouver Whitecaps FC Girls Elite REX head to 2015 Surf Cup

VANCOUVER, BC – Every year, members of the Whitecaps FC Girls Elite REX program have an opportunity to test themselves against some of the best girls teams in North America at the annual soccerloco Surf College Cup. That showcase event takes place this weekend in San Diego, California.


The ‘Caps young Girls Elite REX players have had a season of tremendous growth, diligently training and developing under head coach Emma Humphries and her staff, as well as connecting directly to Canada Soccer Regional EXCEL Centre standards and initiatives, in partnership with BC Soccer.


“Our Girls Elite REX program is dedicated to the growth and development of players, and to give them the opportunity to continue progressing in their careers,” said Humphries. “The Surf Cup will give our young players then opportunity to face highly regarded competition, and to get noticed for scholarship opportunities.”


The girls have tested themselves against quality competition all year long, including university and boys teams. Now they face top competition from the United States in front of college coaches and scouts.


Whitecaps FC will play in the Girls U-17 Moonlight Showcase. They will take on top California sides Strikers FC ECNL, Arsenal FC ECNL-Brown, Arsenal FC ECNL-Bowers, and the numbers one ranked California South team West Coast FC.


The team will also have a special guest on board as Girls Elite grad, and current UBC women's soccer captain and recent CIS national champion Jasmine Mander will be helping with the team as a staff coach.
