Whitecaps FC sign Micaah Garnette, Trevor Wright, and Johnny Selemani from WFC2 to MLS short-term agreements

VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced Tuesday that Whitecaps FC 2 (WFC2) defenders Micaah Garnette and Trevor Wright, along with forward Johnny Selemani, have been signed to MLS short-term agreements. The trio will be available for tonight's Leagues Cup 2026 opener against Atlante FC and Friday's Leagues Cup match against FC Juárez, with both matches taking place at BC Place.

This is the first time Garnette has been signed to a short-agreement with the first team. Primarily being deployed as a fullback with WFC2, he has started all 22 of his appearances in his first MLS NEXT Pro season, adding two assists.

Garnette signed with WFC2 back in February after spending the last three years for the University of Portland Pilots, making 43 appearances with two goals and seven assists. Prior to joining the Pilots, Garnette made 18 appearances for St. John’s University in 2021, scoring one goal and adding one assist.

In-between his time in college, the native of New Jersey spent the 2022-23 season at BW Königsdorf in the German fifth tier Mittelrheinliga, as well as time with FC Motown in USL League Two.

On the international stage, the dual-citizen represented St. Kitt & Nevis at both the U-17 and U-20 national team levels. In his youth, Garnette played at Cedar Stars Monmouth academy.

This is the second time Wright has signed a short-term agreement with the first team. The 24-year-old was an unused substitute in the club's 1-1 draw against LAFC last Saturday.

Wright was signed by WFC2 back in January after playing four seasons at the University of Denver. So far this year, Wright has started 19 of his 20 appearances in MLS NEXT Pro for the young 'Caps, captaining the side and scoring twice.

Prior to joining WFC2, Wright also captained the University of Denver Pioneers in both 2024 and 2025. Over his career, he shares the team record with 85 matches started, finishing with nine goals and seven assists. Last season, Wright was the 2025 Summit League Defensive Player of the Year, adding to his United Soccer Coaches All-West Region First Team (2022, 2025), Summit League First Team (2022, 2025), and Summit League Second Team (2024).

In his youth, the native of Castle Rock, Colorado played with Real Colorado.

Selemani signs his second short-term agreement this season, after being an unused substitute in the MLS regular season away match at Minnesota United FC on July 25. The forward was also signed to three short-term agreements in 2025, making his first team and MLS debut in his second call-up at Columbus Crew on June 14 as a second half substitute.

The 18-year-old signed his first professional contract with WFC2 last year in June. After recovering from a right foot fracture suffered late in preseason, he returned to action with the second team on July 22, playing 28 minutes against Austin FC II.

Last season, Selemani started 17 of his 24 appearances, recording one goal and adding two assists. Prior to signing his contract, the native of Edmonton, Alberta spent time playing with WFC2 as an amateur player during the 2024 and 2025 MLS NEXT Pro seasons.

The forward originally joined the Whitecaps FC BMO Academy in August 2022 after previously playing with BTB Soccer Academy.

In addition, Selemani has competed with Whitecaps FC at the BC Premier League and MLS NEXT levels.

At the international level, Selemani has represented Canada at the U-15 and U-17 age groups. The forward was part of Canada’s roster at the Concacaf U-17 Championship last year, where he started two of his three appearances and scored once en route to helping Canada to a perfect 4W-0L-0D record to secure qualification to the 2025 FIFA U-17 World Cup.
