VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced on Thursday that the club has signed Whitecaps FC BMO Academy product Valter Sedin to a professional contract with Whitecaps FC 2 (WFC2). The 19-year-old Vancouver native is signed through June 2028.

“Valter grew through our academy program before testing himself in Sweden,” said Axel Schuster, Whitecaps FC sporting director. “He is a young player who has always had the right mentality, and he did very well in helping Canada qualify for the U-20 World Cup. We look forward to continuing to work with him in his development.”
Sedin, 19, first joined the Whitecaps FC BMO Academy System in August 2020 and spent five years in the program, including a memorable run with the U-17s to the 2024 MLS NEXT quarterfinals, as well as time in the BCPL (formerly League1 BC). On June 30, 2024, Sedin made his professional debut as an academy call-up with WFC2.
“I’m excited to be back at the club and to sign a professional contract," added Sedin. "I’m looking forward to continuing to develop my game, and to continue pushing forward in my career.”
In February of 2025, the dual-citizen moved to Sweden to play for the U-19 side of Hammarby IF.
Most recently, Sedin played a key role for Canada’s U-20 men’s national team at the 2026 Concacaf U-20 championship in Mexico, scoring in Canada’s final group match against Jamaica and helping the Red and White win their quarterfinal to qualify for the FIFA U-20 World Cup for the first time since 2007.
