BURNABY, BC – Whitecaps FC 2 fell 2-0 to Tacoma Defiance at Swangard Stadium on Sunday.
Head coach Rich Fagan had a young lineup featuring 10 players from the Whitecaps FC BMO MLS Academy, including six starters, with Connor Munn making his professional debut.Â
The 'Caps went on the attack early, with a long striker from Yuma Tsuji in the 12th minute stopped with a low dive from Tacoma goalkeeper Max Anchor, a graduate of the Whitecaps FC BMO Academy program.
Tacoma had a shot from outside the box in the 30th minute, but Sam Rogers did well to get down and make the stop.
After a scoreless first half, Tacoma opened the scoring in the second half. Off of a short corner kick in the 58th minute, former 'Caps player Mark O'Neill headed across the box to Stuart Hawkins, who hit a volley in to make it 1-0.
In the 83rd minute, substitute Mark Bronnik finished a cutback from Charlie Gaffney to make it 2-0.
