SAN FRANCISCO, CA – Whitecaps FC 2 fell to San Jose Earthquakes II in a 6-1 defeat on Saturday.
In the third minute, San Jose striker Zachary Bohane found the opener from close range in the third minute. Earthquakes II forward Shane de Flores made it 2-0 in the eighth minute.
WFC2 forward Daniel Ittycheria earned a penalty kick six minutes later. From the spot, WFC2 attacker Liam Mackenzie cracked a low attempt to the far post, but Montali successfully dove for the denial.
Edwyn Mendoza, Tomo Allen, substitute Julian Donnery scored for San Jose to increase their lead.
Whitecaps FC 2 did solve Montali to spoil the clean sheet bid. WFC2 defender Micaah Garnette lobbed a diagonal cross to sub Tyler Brown, who streaked down the right wing past the San Jose defenders. In close, Brown clinically drilled home.
San Jose would add one more from de Flores to close out the scoring.
Up next, Whitecaps FC 2 will return home to Swangard Stadium on Sunday, May 17 versus Tacoma Defiance at 4 p.m. PT.
