WFC2 fall to Quakes II


SAN JOSE, CA – Whitecaps FC 2 continued their MLS NEXT Pro campaign with a 3-1 loss against Western Conference side San Jose Earthquakes II at PayPal Park this Monday evening.

The first half saw the home side claiming the opening goal of the match. On a direct free kick, Rodolfo Castro Jr.’s powerful strike curled its way into the top corner of the net, giving his squad the advantage in the 37th minute.

The young ‘Caps continued to push throughout the half. After a build-up play was organized by forward Simon Becher, midfielder Giovanni Aguilar delivered a cross to Joe Hanson, who’s finish at the top of the box evened the game within the 45th minute of the match.

The second half began with San Jose grabbing a 2-1 lead in the 60th minute. Eduardo Blancas placed a pass to Maximilian Arfsten, who’s quick strike found the back of the net.

With the match progressing, a cross whipped in from the left side of the field by ‘Caps midfielder Vasco Fry found its way to Simon Becher, as his strike was then saved by goalkeeper Emmanuel Ochoa in the 73rd minute of the match.

As the home side got themselves on a counter attack in the late stages, substitute Joaquin Eisenberg tapped in his team’s third goal of the match in the 90th minute.

Up next for the Blue & White is the final home match at Swangard Stadium against Tacoma Defiance in the MLS NEXT Pro Game of the Week next Friday, September 9, with kickoff set to be at 7 p.m. PT. Tickets are complimentary for Whitecaps FC MLS season ticket members, or $10 at the gate.
