WFC2 sign Whitecaps FC BMO Academy graduate Immanuel Mathe

VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced on Thursday that the club has signed Whitecaps FC BMO Academy product Immanuel Mathe to a Whitecaps FC 2 (WFC2) contract in MLS NEXT Pro through 2027.

  • Played in Whitecaps FC BMO MLS Academy from 2021 to 2024
  • 17 starts and 20 appearances as an academy player with WFC2 in MLS NEXT Pro in 2024
  • Started all 18 of his appearances as a freshman at the University of North Carolina in 2025, getting named to the ACC All-Freshman team
  • Returned to the ‘Caps to play on League1 BC team in 2025
  • Represented Canada at U-20 national team level

Mathe, who will turn 20 on January 27, first joined the Whitecaps FC BMO MLS Academy in 2021, where he developed until graduating in 2024.

The defender brings previous experience in MLS NEXT Pro, making 17 starts and 20 appearances as an academy player with WFC2 in 2024. This past year, the native of Burnaby returned to the ‘Caps to play on the club’s League1 BC team.

In-between his time in Vancouver, Mathe played one season at the University of North Carolina, starting all 18 of his appearances and getting named to the 2025 ACC All-Freshman team.

At the international level, Mathe has previously been called into camp with Canada’s U-17 national team, and represented his country at the 2024 Concacaf U-20 Championship.

Prior to joining the ‘Caps, Mathe came through Mountain United FC.
