VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced on Wednesday that the club has signed Whitecaps FC BMO Academy forward Ryder Sewell to a Whitecaps FC 2 (WFC2) contract in MLS NEXT Pro through the 2028 season.
Sewell becomes the 19th Canadian teenager to be signed to a professional contract since WFC2 began play in MLS NEXT Pro in 2022.
Whitecaps FC 2 forward Ryder Sewell:
- Joined the Whitecaps FC BMO Academy in 2023
- Eight starts in 15 appearances and one goal in MLS NEXT Pro since 2025
- Played with the ‘Caps in BC Premier League (formerly League1 BC)
- Called up to Canada U-16 camp in May 2025
- 2025 Whitecaps FC BMO Academy U-16 Player of the Year, Academy Starting XI, and Player’s Player of the Year winner
Sewell, 16, joined the Whitecaps FC BMO MLS Academy program in 2023 after previously playing for local youth teams Surrey FC and Supra Academy.
The academy forward signs his first professional contract after making eight starts in 15 appearances in MLS NEXT Pro since 2025. So far in 2026, Sewell has recorded one goal and ranks third on the team in key passes with 13.
Sewell also made four appearances and scored one goal for the ‘Caps in the team’s 2025 BC Premier League (formerly League1 BC) season.
Concluding the 2025 academy season, Sewell was recognized at the club’s academy awards, winning U-16 Player of the Year, Player’s Player of the Year, and named to the Academy Starting XI.
Over the past two years, Sewell has taken part in preseason with the Whitecaps FC MLS first team in Marbella, Spain.
Sewell has one call-up to Canada’s U-16 national team camp in May 2025.
