Cascadia Cup celebrations - 2014

VANCOUVER, BC – There’s nothing quite like a derby match.

Just ask Vancouver Whitecaps FC. Oh wait, that’s exactly what we did.

Here’s what a few ‘Caps players had to say about playing in Cascadia derbies ahead of their much-anticipated home-and-away series with Pacific Northwest rival Seattle Sounders FC.

A derby game is always wonderful. It just brings the best out of the fans and players and so much emotion from both cities. Now, we have two in four days so we’re going in to win both of them. First we’re playing away in a beautiful stadium in front of lot spectators and then we’re coming home. It’s going to be fun.”

“It’s amazing. The fans make a big deal out of it and there’s a real rivalry and real history between the two clubs. Every single player wants to play in those kinds of big games. It’s great to come in and try to show everyone what you’ve got. I think we all have that mentality for these games, which is part of what makes it so special.”

“They’re great. The fans come in numbers – our fans and their fans. The Pacific Northwest, as far as I’m concerned, has the best fan bases and the most passionate fans in North America. It’s great that we’re so close together; it forms that rivalry even more so. Everybody looks forward to these games, for sure.”

Whitecaps FC visit Seattle Sounders FC on Saturday night at CenturyLink Field (7 p.m. PT kickoff on TSN1), before hosting them again four days later at BC Place in the club’s first-ever CONCACAF Champions League match. Be a part of history and secure your tickets today.
