Whitecaps FC 2 acquire Canadian striker Lowell Wright from York United FC

VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced on Wednesday that Whitecaps FC 2 have acquired striker Lowell Wright from York United FC and signed him to an MLS NEXT Pro contract through 2024, with a club option for 2025.

“Lowell is a young Canadian player who we have been tracking,” said Axel Schuster, Whitecaps FC sporting director. “He is still a teenager and has shown growth in both the CPL and for Canada’s U-20 men’s national team. We’re pleased to come to an agreement that is beneficial for Lowell, York, and for our club.”

Wright, 18, has scored seven goals and recorded three assists in 40 career CPL appearances, including tying for the team high with six goals during the 2021 season. In the Canadian Championship, Wright made four appearances and recorded two assists.

Prior to signing with York, Wright spent time in the Toronto FC Academy, as well as with Sigma FC, and Woodbridge Strikers.

At the international level, the native of Brampton, Ontario was called up to Canada’s U-20 men’s national team twice in 2022, including the Concacaf U-20 Championship where he started two of four appearances, scoring twice.
