VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced on Monday that Whitecaps FC 2 (WFC2) has loaned midfielder Owen Antoniuk to Atlético Ottawa through the end of the 2022 Canadian Premier League season.
"At this point the most important thing for Owen’s development is to get consistently meaningful minutes on a good competitive level," said Axel Schuster, Whitecaps FC sporting director. “We look forward to following Owen’s progression in Ottawa.”
Antoniuk, 19, has started three of his 13 appearances for WFC2 this season, scoring a brace in the team’s home opener against Timbers2 on April 10 and netting the equalizer in the side’s 2-1 away win over St. Louis CITY2 on May 7.
The native of Calgary, Alberta joined the Whitecaps FC BMO Academy in August 2018 after previously playing in the Whitecaps FC BMO Alberta Academy program. Prior to joining the ‘Caps, Antoniuk developed at Calgary Blizzard.
Atlético Ottawa was founded in 2020 in partnership with Spanish La Liga side Atlético Madrid and are currently third in the Canadian Premier League standings.
