VANCOUVER, BC - Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced on Wednesday that the club and Marco Bustos have mutually agreed to terminate his MLS contract, allowing the Homegrown midfielder to join USL side OKC Energy FC.

"We’ve watched Marco grow and mature within the club. He’s a good kid, with a good head on his shoulders, and we wish him nothing but the best as he pursues this new opportunity with OKC," said Whitecaps FC head coach Carl Robinson.

“I’d like to thank the Whitecaps for giving me the chance to start a dream of mine, the staff and coaches, especially Gordon Forrest and Steve Meadley, who have helped me become the footballer and person I am today,” said Bustos. “I can’t wait to see what my future holds, but Vancouver will always be special to me.”

Bustos originally joined the club through its Residency program in September 2012, then was added to the first-team roster ahead of the 2015 MLS season. He made four starts in 13 appearances across all competitions for the first team, and has spent 2018 on loan to Ascenso MX side Club Atlético Zacatepec. Bustos also featured on former USL side Whitecaps FC 2, finishing as the all-time leader with 22 goals, in addition to five assists, in 57 appearances.
