Whitecaps FC face Iwaki FC Thursday in Pacific Rim Cup opener

HONOLULU, HAWAII – After a 4-0 win over J1 League side Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo in Tuesday’s pre-tournament friendly, Vancouver Whitecaps FC open the Pacific Rim Cup on Thursday against Japanese club Iwaki FC.


Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. PT (5 p.m. local) at Aloha Stadium. The match will be streamed live on the Whitecaps FC Facebook page.



Should Whitecaps FC defeat Iwaki FC on Thursday, they would then face either Columbus Crew SC or Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo in the championship match on Saturday at 9 p.m. PT. In the event of a loss, they would play in the third-place match at 6 p.m. PT.

ABOUT IWAKI FC

The city of Iwaki is based in Fukushima Prefecture – one of the regions severely affected by the Eastern Japan earthquake and tsunami in 2011. A year later, Iwaki FC was formed, debuting in the Japanese seventh division. Since then, they have been promoted twice. The now fifth division club even defeated J1 League side Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo, who the ‘Caps faced on Tuesday, in the second round of the Emperor’s Cup last year. Iwaki FC is 100 per cent owned and operated by Dome Corporation.
