VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC is pleased to welcome Wesburn FC as a new member of the Whitecaps FC Network Partner Program.

The Whitecaps FC Network Partner Program is focused on the continued development of soccer talent in Canada. The program provides clubs and associations across Canada with the opportunity to team up with the Whitecaps to grow and develop their soccer operations. Network Partners clubs’ benefit through technical services, curriculum, coach development, exclusive insider access to events, and developmental pathway opportunities.

“We are very excited to work together with Wesburn FC,” said Axel Schuster, Whitecaps FC sporting director. “They have a tremendous history in Burnaby, and we can’t wait to help develop the next generation of young players at their club.”

Wesburn Football Club has ties to the Burnaby community that extend back more than a half-century. In 1949 the Wesburn Community Association was formed by a group of local citizens wanting to establish a neighborhood park in their community. Upon establishing the park, the association began to sponsor children’s softball, soccer and square-dancing events, as well as adult soccer games. Over the years the soccer and square-dancing sides of the association grew until it became necessary to administer them independently.

“Today marks a significant stride forward for Wesburn FC in our long history of Burnaby soccer excellence,” said Michael Iallonardo, president of Wesburn FC. “I could not be more excited to be collaboratively working with Whitecaps FC in a new strategic partnership cultivating long term player and coaching development. Our two great organizations longstanding commitment to youth soccer will carry us forward, further nurturing the next great generation of soccer enthusiasts."

Wesburn Football Club is a community organization devoted to Burnaby youth and their pursuit of soccer excellence. They provide an environment where children can learn and practice the skill of soccer along with interpersonal as well as leisure skills for life. For more information visit
