Whitecaps FC re-sign experienced striker Tosaint Ricketts

VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced on Friday that the club has re-signed striker Tosaint Ricketts to a new contract through 2022 with an option for 2023.

“Tos embodies our cornerstones and is a true professional and leader in the locker room and in the community,” said Axel Schuster, Whitecaps FC sporting director. “We are very happy to have him at our club.”

  • Will focus on strategic projects and initiatives as manager, community impact
  • Two-time Whitecaps FC Humanitarian of the Year (2020, 2021)

“I am grateful to play another year for this club, this group of players and most importantly our supporters,” said Ricketts. “We stand together for this city!”

Ricketts, who was named the 2021 Whitecaps FC Humanitarian of the Year, made 15 appearances in all competitions last season.

The Edmonton, Alberta native enters his 14th year as a professional having scored 83 goals in 361 appearances at the club and international levels, including 60 appearances for the Canadian men’s national team.

Off the pitch, Ricketts will take on the position of manager, community impact in the club’s community and social impact department. His role will focus on strategic projects and initiatives that help strengthen the club’s connections to the community.

“Tosaint brings an important voice and perspective to our department and organization," added Jennifer Scott, Whitecaps FC director of community and social impact. "Formalizing his front office role ensures he is best positioned to lead projects and strengthen our community initiatives. It’s exciting to see his leaderships skills and contributions to the club expand and evolve.”

A community leader, Ricketts has helped spearhead numerous initiatives such as a tifo collaboration between Whitecaps FC and Real Salt Lake supporter groups around Juneteenth, as well as instigating a partnership with the local Strathcona neighbourhood to support the pride, safety, and well-being of its residents.

Ricketts is also a member of Black Players for Change, as he works to help advocate for concrete actions that advance anti-racism, equity, and social justice through his social media platforms and community initiatives.
