Whitecaps FC re-sign midfielder Russell Teibert to three-year contract

VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced on Wednesday that the club has re-signed Homegrown midfielder Russell Teibert to a new contract through 2020.


"Russell has matured and grown with this club and he will continue to be a key member of the team in the coming years," said head coach Carl Robinson. "He's a model professional who, if playing or not, never changes his mentality or will for the team to win. You need passionate and driven players like that in your squad. Russell’s hard work and determination will continue to push the group.”

  • Two goals and 15 assists in 101 starts and 141 appearances for the first team in all competitions
  • Joined the club's Residency program in September 2008 and signed an MLS Homegrown contract in March 2011
  • Winner of the 2015 George Gross Memorial Trophy as Canadian Championship MVP, and holds the all-time club record with 19 matches played in the tournament
  • One goal and one assist in 20 appearances for the Canadian men's national team


Teibert, 24, is the longest serving player on Whitecaps FC, having first joined the club's Residency program in September 2008. Since signing an MLS Homegrown contract in March 2011, the 5-foot-8 midfielder has recorded two goals and 15 assists in 101 starts and 141 appearances for the first team in all competitions, including starting the club’s first ever MLS match on March 19, 2011.


“First and foremost I want to thank everyone in the organization for the opportunity to continue wearing the Blue and White,” Teibert said. “Vancouver has become my home and this club has become my family. The time up until now was just the beginning. I know there’s so much more to come from me and from the team. I promise that every time I step on the field I’ll always play with heart and work to be the best player I can be for this city and club.”


Having played in six editions of the Canadian Championship, Teibert is the all-time club record holder for matches played in the tournament with 19. He was awarded the George Gross Memorial Trophy as the Canadian Championship Most Valuable Player in 2015 as the 'Caps won their first-ever Voyageurs Cup. 


Internationally, the Niagara Falls, Ontario native has a goal and an assist in seven starts and 20 appearances for the Canadian senior men's national team. In addition, Teibert is a two-time recipient of the Canadian U-17 Player of the Year award, receiving the honour in 2008 and 2009.
