Whitecaps FC sign wingback Ali Ahmed and striker Simon Becher to MLS short-term agreements

VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced on Thursday that the club has signed Whitecaps FC 2 (WFC2) wingback Ali Ahmed and striker Simon Becher to MLS short-term agreements for Friday’s MLS regular season home match against Houston Dynamo FC.

Ahmed, 21, receives his second MLS short-term agreement of the season after making his MLS debut as a substitute at Austin FC on April 23. The native of Toronto, Ontario has started nine of his 10 appearances with WFC2 and leads the team with four assists and 17 successful dribbles. Prior to the season, Ahmed spent preseason with the Whitecaps FC first team, making one start in four appearances.

Whitecaps FC striker Simon Becher

  • Only player to appear in all 18 matches for WFC2, starting 16 times
  • Leads WFC2 with six goals on the season, adding two assists
  • Selected 16th overall by Whitecaps FC in the 2022 MLS SuperDraft

Becher, 23, is the only WFC2 player to appear in all 18 matches this season, starting 16 times and leading the team with six goals, adding two assists. The native of Brooklyn, Connecticut was selected 16th overall by Whitecaps FC in the 2022 MLS SuperDraft out of Saint Louis University, where he finished tied for first in NCAA goal contributions with 14 goals and 10 assists in his final season.
