An intelligent and aggressive centre back who can line up on both three-man and four-man backlines, Brendan McDonough was selected 35th overall by Whitecaps FC in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft. 

McDonough made 56 starts in 63 appearances, collecting two goals and two assists while serving as captain in the last two seasons at Georgetown. He helped the program to three Big East Tournament championships in his four years, scoring the game-winner in the 2018 title game. As a senior, he was named to the All-East Region Second Team and the All-Big East Conference Second Team after he helped the Hoyas to a league-best 10 clean sheets on the season. 

McDonough comes from a sports family. His dad, Terry, is Vice President, Player Personnel for the NFL’s Arizona Cardinals. His uncle Sean is a former general manager for the NBA’s Phoenix Suns, while his uncle Ryan is a sportscaster for ESPN. His late grandfather Will was a reporter for The Boston Globe, CBS, and NBC... Brendan spent his junior year of high school in Germany training with FT Braunschweig and Eintracht Braunschweig.
