Caio Alexandre was acquired by Whitecaps FC in March 2021 from Brazilian club Botafogo FR to bolster their midfield with his proven experience in one of the top 10 leagues in the world.
The technical box-to-box player is signed to a four-year contract through 2024 and is currently on loan with Brazilian side Fortaleza EC through to the end of 2023.
'22: Having undergone successful surgery back in August 2021, Alexandre continued to work his way back to full fitness at the start of the season but suffered a setback in April as he suffered a left hand fracture during a training session at the Whitecaps FC National Soccer Development Centre. After missing eight weeks, the Brazilian returned to action as a substitute in the ‘Caps 2-1 home win over Real Salt Lake on June 4. In total, Alexandre made five appearances across all competitions for Vancouver before being loaned out to Brazilian Série A side Fortaleza EC through December 31, 2022.
'21: In his debut season in MLS, Caio Alexandre started 11 of his 15 appearances for the Blue and White, tallying an assist on Cristian Dájome’s goal against Seattle Sounders FC on June 26 at Lumen Field. The Brazilian’s first season was cut short, however, as he suffered a fifth metatarsal fracture in his left foot during a training session on August 14 and underwent successful surgery on August 23, forcing him to miss the remainder of the season. Despite his abbreviated first season, one of Caio Alexandre’s most impressive attributes during his first season with the ‘Caps was his 86.3% passing accuracy, which ranked second on the team amongst midfielders who started a match in 2021.
Caio Alexandre made the move to Major League Soccer following his first professional season in Brazil’s Série A, which included five goals across all competitions. Born in Duque de Caxias, Brazil, he made 34 league appearances, six starts in the Copa do Brasil, and 10 appearances in the Campeonato Carioca. Prior to signing his first team contract in September 2019, Caio Alexandre captained the Botafogo U-20 side.
Caio Alexandre was ranked ninth overall among the biggest revelations during the 2020-21 season by Brazilian newspaper O Globo.
