PROFILE

A defender/midfielder from Nepean, Ontario, Matteo de Brienne previously played with Ottawa South United before joining Whitecaps FC Residency in August 2016.

 

INTERNATIONAL
De Brienne was 14 years old when he made his Canadian youth program debut at the U-14 identification camp in Vaughan Ontario. In 2017 he participated in a U-15 identification camp under coach Rob Gale. 

 

DEVELOPMENT ACADEMY 

2017-2018: De Brienne played 25 times for Whitecaps FC U-17 last season, starting eight times. He was tied for third in goals with 10. He also made an additional two appearances in the playoffs. 

YOUTH/AMATEUR
The left winger represented his home province as part of the Ontario Provincial Team for the U-14 squad. Matteo was also on trial in March of the same year with Crewe Alexandria. In 2015 with Ottawa South United (OSU), Matteo earned the championship title in the Ontario Player Development League (OPDL). Matteo ended the season with a total of 44 goals in 20 games. In 2013, he was invited by the Dallas Texans (affiliated club with OSU) to attend trials with Real Madrid Academy in Spain.

PERSONAL
Matteo’s parents along with his two sisters, have been a positive influence on him.  His father was part of his coaching staff from U4-U7 and he follows his mother’s mantra of “play hard, play smart, play like a leader”. Matteo attended Pierre Savard Catholic French School in 2015 and is fluent in French and English. 

INTERESTING FACTS
Matteo’s favourite team is Barcelona in Spain's La Liga. His favourite player is Argentine star Lionel Messi. He dreams of playing against his idol one day.
